Requirements to become a Registered SACGA Gas Practitioner

Registration to become an authorised SACGA Gas Practitioner is based upon competence which is proof of Technical & Practical Qualifications and Experience in the gas industry for the gases and scopes been applied for.

The Applicant will need to:

  • Meet the Pre-entry requirements as detailed on the application form.
  • Submit detailed Portfolio of Evidence (POE) technical and practical with the application form.
  • Provide proof of the last 5 chronological gas projects for each gas systems/scope of work applying for with images (if possible).
  • Should the applicant not have the necessary practical experience for the gas system/s and the scope of work then he/she will need to provide proof of mentorship.  The Mentor needs to be a SAQCC Registered Gas Practitioner who is registered for the gas/s and scope of work you wish to be registered for and the mentor will assess your competence, under his supervision, and confirm in writing that he deems the applicant competent for the gas/s and scope of work being applied for.  All this information shall be included in the application.
  • Provide a motivation letter and recommendation from your present employer to support the application.
  • If the applicant requires design as part of his/her application he/she will need to provide the following with the application:
    Detailed proof of competence is required for design.  This will include but is not limited to:
    • Technical ability: i.e. Qualification.
    • Experience in calculating design criteria.
    • Knowledge of design standards applicable to the gas/s applied for.
    • Knowledge of applicable legislation.
    • Knowledge and ability to conduct HAZOP analysis.

Competence will be assessed by the SACGA Registration Working Group based upon the evidence submitted with the application, on a case by case basis.
